All About Food for Human Body

Meaning of Food and its Importance  for Body and Health

Food is anything that is consumed by the living beings for the growth and maintenance of the body.
Food provides all the nutrients and energy that is essential for a body's existence and functioning. Without food, nobody can survive.

Food can be obtained through various resources like plants, animals, birds, insects, creatures, and water inhabitants.

Food is procured through the means of hunting, cultivating, animal husbandry, poultry farming or maintaining aquariums, etc.

  • In primitive days, people used to hunt animals and eat raw or search for fruits and roots and consume them.
  • Later, they learned the more soft ways of baking, roasting, frying, and cooking processes of that hunted food.
  • Then they learned the more civilized ways of cultivation and began producing all those cereals, grains, vegetables, and fruits, etc.

Now, food has taken so many forms, shapes, and tastes that we can not count or taste all of those varieties. There are thousands of ingredients that are being used to cook our food for the growth and wellbeing of our body and health.

  • The main food for any human being comprises cereals like rice, wheat, and maize which account for around 90% of total food consumption.
  • Other food items include meat, fish, vegetables including leaves, seeds and roots, fruits, dairy products, water, and salts.

Now, let us have a glance at the cooked food facet

Food basically used to be a personal item prepared for one's own consumption thousands of years ago. Later, when man became a social being and had to travel places, he was unable to prepare his own food. So, he had to get it from some other resources. Thus the idea of preparing food for others in return for some value got developed.

The first public places that prepared food for other people were known as inns. They served the cooked food and drinks to travelers and others who were unable to prepare their own food. Inns existed for more than two thousand years ago, and then, taverns also developed which provided lodging for travelers besides serving food and beverages.

The modern form of Restaurants was given birth in Paris in the 18th century and since then the modern forms of Hotels, Restaurants, Eateries, and Food Courts began spreading their influence in our daily life.

There are thousands of varieties of recipes and dishes that are being cooked and served now even to your doorsteps daily at a single phone call.
